Welcome to my new blog, everyone! My name is Terry. I live in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. I am legally blind. I write a lot of my thoughts down, with no real outlet. Because of my comedic tendencies, many people have recommended that I blog. First, here's a little about me.
I am originally from Indiana. I got my bachelor's in information systems and math from the University of Indianapolis in 1997. I've been married to Pam since 1987. We have two children, Angelise and Spencer. They are 26 and 23, respectively. Pam is a professional nanny, and I am a technology professional. Currently, I focus on systems accessibility.
In 2010, I self-published a book called "Raising Adults: Preparing for Eighteen". It's available on Author House and Amazon. It's a paperback or eBook. The main things I will blog about are the continuing series of Raising Adults books I am currently writing. In total there are six more to come. I'm actively writing three at the same time. That is, I have the conceptual and structure notes finished, and am composing content around the structure.
I do lots of cool things for personal development. I play three different kinds of guitars. I practice martial arts. I study biblical scripture. I watch several television shows. I am also helping Pam renovate our new home, which is 20 years old.
Our youngest, Spencer, provided us a grandson two years ago. We spend a lot of time with little son-son. We're also living with Pam's mom, Anita. Anita is gradually recovering from some physical issues through new procedures and our help. We're gaining ground with her mobility one miracle at a time. It's very encouraging.
From now on, I plan to write about my personal insights as a blind guy. I have loads of thoughts on raising children. For example, we don't raise children. We raise adults. When you plant a seed, you don't raise seeds. You raise plants - or trees - or crops. I also think very deeply about the origins of humanity, the future of humanity, and the purpose of humanity. I'm mainly scientific, so that's my method. I'm also greatly philosophical, so that's my rationale. I'm also a born-again believer in Jesus Christ as God and man, so that's my foundation. Occasionally, I'll talk about science, politics, personal views, or technology. Most of my time, I will talk about raising adults. My primary message is that we need to make sure to focus our parenting on getting our kids prepared to be adults who take ownership of their own lives by the time they are eighteen. Among all of the absolutely crazy things I will say, I hope to also be really funny.
